The most elegant fence you can put on a property — powder-coated ornamental steel built to protect and impress for decades. Installed by Fort Collins Fence, Northern Colorado's trusted crew since 1996.
Wrought iron fencing is the choice when you want a fence that's immediately noticed — the kind that frames an upscale home, defines a formal garden or secures a property without sacrificing an ounce of curb appeal.
We fabricate and install ornamental steel panels custom-fitted to your property, finished with a durable powder coating that protects against corrosion and holds its color for decades in Colorado's climate.
A note on materials: Traditional wrought iron (hand-forged pure iron) is rarely produced today. Modern "wrought iron" fencing is precision-fabricated from mild steel or ornamental steel — stronger, more consistent and equally beautiful. We use the same term the industry uses, but we want you to know exactly what you're getting.
The finial — the decorative top of each picket — defines the personality of an ornamental iron fence. We install all four standard styles, custom-matched to your property.
A sharp, pointed picket tip — the classic ornamental iron look. Strong security presence with a sharp, formal profile.
Blunt, squared picket tops for a contemporary aesthetic. Less aggressive, perfect for modern architecture.
A rounded ball finial on each picket — elegant and approachable, popular for garden fences and entry gates.
An open ring finial — a more intricate, historic look. Ideal for period architecture and formal estate fencing.
No other fence material combines security, elegance and return on investment the way ornamental steel does.
A well-designed ornamental iron fence consistently increases curb appeal and resale value — it signals quality to every passerby and every appraiser.
Solid steel pickets set in concrete footings don't bend, break or get pushed over. Ornamental iron is a genuine physical deterrent — not just a visual boundary.
Powder-coated ornamental steel resists corrosion, UV and Colorado's extreme temperature swings. Properly installed, it can last 30 to 50+ years with minimal upkeep.
Not every fence does everything. Here's an honest look at how ornamental steel compares to the other options we install.

Everything you need to know about ornamental iron — materials, durability, maintenance, cost and what to expect from our installation process.
Not exactly. Traditional wrought iron — hand-forged pure iron — is virtually unavailable commercially today. Modern ornamental fencing sold as "wrought iron" is fabricated from mild steel or ornamental steel, which is actually stronger, more consistent and equally beautiful. We use the common trade term, but we'll always tell you exactly what you're getting.
Powder coating is an electrostatically applied dry paint that forms a hard, continuous shell around the steel. It's far more durable than liquid paint — resistant to chipping, scratching, UV fading and corrosion. A quality powder-coat finish on ornamental steel can last 30+ years with only occasional cleaning.
The powder-coat finish prevents rust from forming as long as it remains intact. Colorado's low humidity actually helps extend the coating's life. If the coating is chipped or scratched, touching it up promptly will prevent rust from starting. We recommend inspecting your fence annually.
We install four standard finial styles: spear top (the classic pointed picket), flat top (blunt, modern), ball top (rounded decorative ball) and ring top (open ring for a more ornamental look). We'll help you choose the right style for your home's architecture.
Yes. We fabricate and install matching single and double swing gates in the same panel style, finial and powder-coat color as your fence. Gates are hung on heavy-duty hinges and include a latch. We can also accommodate automatic gate opener hardware if requested.
Ornamental steel is among the higher-cost fencing options upfront, but also has the highest estimated service life and property value impact. Exact pricing depends on the linear footage, panel height, finial style and gate count. We offer free on-site estimates with no obligation — call us and we'll give you a clear, honest number.
